Preparation Before Shelling Cashew Nuts
In general, cashew nuts vary in size after harvest. To improve the shelling success rate and the integrity of the kernels, the cashew nuts are usually graded into 3 to 5 levels. According to customer requirements, the grading is typically based on width, such as:
- Below 21 mm
- 21–23 mm
- 23–25 mm
- Above 25 mm
After grading, the cashew nuts should be steamed or boiled in hot water to soften the shells. This helps increase the shelling success rate. Once softened, they should be dried before shelling.
Operating Steps of the Automatic Cashew Nut Shelling Machine
Step 1: Start the Machine
Connect the power supply and turn on the motor switch. The machine will start running.
Wait a few seconds to ensure that the blades rotate smoothly and the feeding system is operating normally.
Step 2: Feed Cashew Nuts Evenly
Slowly pour the pre-treated cashew nuts into the feeding inlet. Avoid adding too many at once.
Some models are equipped with an automatic feeding device to ensure continuous and uniform feeding.
Step 3: Automatic Shelling
The cashew nuts are transported via conveyor belts or rollers into the shelling area and are automatically positioned.
Rotating blades or stamping devices accurately split the shells, allowing the kernels to be released.
The entire process requires no manual intervention—safe and highly efficient.
Step 4: Shell and Kernel Separation
The mixture of kernels and shells is transferred into a winnowing or vibrating screen system.
The kernels fall into a collection tray through screen holes, while the shells are automatically discharged.

Usage Tips
- To improve the kernel yield rate, it is recommended to use the shelling machine together with a cashew grading machine and a steaming pot.
- If further peeling of the shelled cashew kernels is required, a cashew peeling machine can be used.
